Unit Reflection During this unit, we have researched and discussed different ways to be a responsible global citizen. We watched a documentary about the environment and the many problems it faces, called “Home”. It portrayed and explained how the ways we do things now, is not sustainable. We wrote down what we thought were the most important parts and facts. We created a PowerPoint presentation about global warming and the problems it causes. To get information, we watched a few videos of Al Gore explaining the problems with global warming and the different opinions on global warming. I chose to focus mine on the different opinions on global warming, like how some scientists believe that global warming is not happening and we are entering a new ice age. I however still believe it is happening and do not agree with their views. We also created a PowerPoint presentation about a conflict of our choice. I chose the conflict in Syria. The goal of this assignment was to get an in depth view of a conflict happening somewhere in the world. I feel like I reached this goal with a detailed presentation about the uprising in Syria. We discussed the different government schemes that have been used over the years and the different environmental problems that we faced. We focused a lot on Al Gore and his speeches and ideas. I believe I learned a lot about what it means to be a global citizen. I have learned about the green parties who take part in the elections and focus on the good of the people and the environment. As an assessment, we have created a manifesto for our own “Codrington” green party. I believe this was a very good assessment, as it helped me become more aware of the different problems in Barbados and think of ideas to solve them.
